A. GUIDELINES

A. General
1. Members are asked to not disclose to anyone what goes on inside these forums. This is sensitive subject matter. Please respect the privacy of the individuals who post here. What is said here, stays here.
2. Check for open topics. Before posting a new topic, please check to see if there is already a topic open on the subject.
3. Members should post in a way that is respectful of other users. Flaming or abusing users in any way will not be tolerated and will lead to a warning.
4. No use of explicit, obscene or vulgar language or images and/or messages, including racist remarks.
5. Ignore bothersome members. If there is a problem that cannot be resolved amiably, please notify the Moderator.
6. Members should remember this board is aimed at a general audience. Posting pornographic or generally offensive text, images, links, etc. will not be tolerated and will lead to a warning and/or banishment from the forums.
7. Members are asked to respect the copyright of other users, sites, media, etc. Users linking to irrelevant material, websites, or re-printing material without permission will receive a warning and their post will be removed.
8. Members should post in a way which is consistent with "normal writing". That is users should not post excessive numbers of emoticons, large, small or coloured text, etc. Similarly users should not SHOUT or use excessive punctuation (e.g. ! and ?) in topic titles or posts. Users consistently abusing this will be warned.
9. Avoid "generic" post subjects like "Help" or "Question". You will receive a better response to your posts by being more descriptive about the content of your post. This will help other members with a similar concern, question or comment find yours when searching through the forums.
10. Spam is not tolerated here under any circumstance. Users posting spam will be warned and their post removed. A second abuse of this will result in being banned from the forums entirely, and your member account cancelled.
11. The Moderators and Administrator reserve the right to edit or remove any post at any time. The determination of what is construed as indecent, vulgar, spam, etc. as noted in these points is up to Moderators and not users.
12. The above forum rules where applicable also apply to private messaging. Abuse of the private messaging system may lead to warnings (as above) and/or the revocation of private messaging.

B. Avatars, Signatures and Fonts
1. Avatars are permitted as long as 1) You own them, and they are not copyrighted images, 2) Rated G, and 3) non-animated. Animations are a distraction.
2. Signatures are permitted. No images may be used in the signature, due to the distraction of images within a serious thread. A link to your personal website or resource website is fine.
3. Fonts: Keep the sizes at a regular, readable size. If you are using larger fonts in your posting, please PREVIEW your post BEFORE submitting it. If the window scrolls, or the fonts are so large that only 2 or 3 words fit on the screen - GO SMALLER. All posts are being watched, and Administrator or Moderators may edit your posts, and issue you a warning.

C. Bans
1. TransMentors SOFFA Support wants every one to be able to give and find support here on the forums. We are reasonable, and willing to work with you. Permanent bans are a last resort and thought is given before implementing them.

D. Website Problems
1. Please notify the Administrator if you have any technical difficulties navigating the forums. Administrator email is soffas@transmentors.org

HELPFUL SUGGESTIONS:

1. Use good judgement. NEVER rely on information or opinions exchanged via the forums or chat rooms to replace necessary, personal consultation(s) with qualified health or medical professionals to meet your individual health or medical needs. Remember that what's right or has worked for one person may not be what's right for you.

2. Lend a helping hand. A bit of compassion can go a long way toward helping people with life's challenges and reaching out can help alleviate feelings of loneliness. We're all different, but we're really all the same. At sometime or another, we all need or want help or simply someone with whom we can share our burdens or successes.

3. Don't be afraid to share. If you're feeling alone or hurting, don't be afraid to share your fears and tears. If you're rejoicing about the results of a recent medical test or treatment, share that too.

4. Welcome new members. When newcomers arrive, say "hi" and welcome them. Help new folks "learn the ropes" about how to find information and resources, save time, and how to get involved. You will also find a lot of help using the forums themselves.
